Ultra Violet Clarifiers (UVC's) for ponds or koi ponds are available as standalone units that can be added to existing pond biological filters. Alternatively, they are commonly found as combined units with integrated biological filters.

An ultra violet clarifier is an electrical device that water is pumped through before it enters the biological filter. Its primary function is to eliminate green water and reduce the presence of harmful bacteria in the pond. During the water's passage through the unit, it is exposed to high levels of U.V. light. This U.V. light causes the microscopic single cell algae to clump together, facilitating their collection and breakdown by the biological filter. Consequently, the issue of green water is effectively resolved.
